Delta Park Skool to officially change name in 2025

Delta Park Skool is set to change its name to Delta Park School, aligning with its English-only instruction and resolving administrative challenges with the education department.

The School Governing Body (SGB) of Delta Park Skool (DPS) has proposed changing the school’s name, officially, to Delta Park School. This decision reflects the school’s shift to an English-only medium of instruction and aims to resolve administrative challenges linked to the current name.

Originally established as Blairgowrie High School, DPS has catered to special needs learners from Grade R to 12 since 1992. The school initially offered both English and Afrikaans instruction, but Afrikaans was phased out in 2004 due to low enrolment and other educational challenges. Despite this change, the official name still includes the Afrikaans word ‘Skool’, leading to administrative inconsistencies with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

The SGB launched a formal consultation process to address this, engaging parents, teacher’s unions, local councillors, the Community Policing Forum, and the wider public.

Key steps taken:

• The SGB approved and included the name change in the annual general meeting (AGM).
• At the AGM on November 9, 2024, parents voted in favour of the change.
• Official notices were sent to unions, local communities, and shopping centres.

The school is now completing engagements with remaining stakeholders before submitting the request to the Johannesburg North District and GDE head office for final approval.

The SGB has invited the public to share their comments, or objections, via email at info@deltaparkschool.co.za by April 30.
