The value of higher education

Posted at 9/30/2016, 1:52:14 PM

Hey all,
A few notes from the font of learning:
1) Reading a book a day sucks. It sucks less once you get the hang of it, though. However, 200-400 pages of reading a night does take its toll.
2) Recovery from surgery is going well. I'm still in physical therapy but I have two working hands, hooray!
3) I got a chance to visit a large number of the WWII battle sites, specifically those in the Normandy invasion. At some point, I need to include those locations in a story because there is a surreal feeling standing at the waterfront of Omaha Beach at low tide. You look up the long, long plane of loose sand to the bluffs that rise overhead. I tried to imagine that run under enemy gunfire and almost cried standing there.
3) Not all of these books are strategy specific. Today's book is called "The Tragedy of Great Power Politics" by John Mearsheimer. It's generally a scholarly book but I think that anyone who, like me, likes to write in the post-apocalyptic genre its got some good discussion on who states/actors work in anarchy. Heck, it even has a chapter titled "Strategies for Survival" that discusses the varying ways weaker nations work with or against stronger ones for survival. Might be worth a read if you enjoy writing in that genre.

That's all from learning land. I'm still working to carve out fiction writing time but don't think I've forgotten you all.
Stay pervy,

Mother fucking PhD time

Hey fellow pervies,

Today's blog update is coming to you from Dragon voice to text (and a little bit of gin). Had shoulder surgery on 1 July and I was down to 1 hand. Doc gave me clearance today to take my sling off at home, which is great because now I can start working on training my hand to work again. Until then I'm using Dragon to do all my typing for me.

In other news, started my PhD program on Wednesday so I'm doing massive amounts of reading and have a 10 page paper due at the end of the month. Will that cut into my ability to write for stories online? You're damn right it will. Will I still write for fun on the weekends? Are you fucking kidding me? Of course, I will! It just means that I have to slow roll Pantheon two. Fortunately, my two super betas have already reviewed up through chapter 6. Once I chapter 10 I intend to start releasing it, very slowly

That's all for now, thanks for reading sorry been out for a bit but major surgery is no fucking joke.

Cheers,

PuffD

PS - if you want to know the theme song for the Marine that appeared at the very end of Pantheon one, I suggest listening to "Bitch I Operate" by Mbest11x. That pretty much sums it up!

Race against time

Cheers all,
I finished my last day of class today and on Monday I will be awarded my second masters in Military Operational Art and Science. Now I have one month until I start my PhD program to finish Pantheon 2... the Unnamed Story! Wish me luck as I battle the Fatigue Monster and the Morass of Vacation in Alaska.
Ok, in all seriousness I'm trying to get enough chapters written before 01 Jul so I can slow roll my chapters once I start school.
"But PuffD," you say, "School doesn't start until the 7th."
"Yes my dears, but I'm having shoulder surgery on the first and will be drugged to the mother fuckin' teeth," I tell you.
Here's hoping I can get this story to a publishable level by surgery day!
Also, if you're wondering: it's a truly horrible thing to be badly injured far, far from a level one trauma facility. Had I been closer, and seen a real doctor (I still love you corpsman!) sooner, I might not be having surgery this summer. That being said, we've come a long mother fuckin' way since Desert Storm!
Cheers,
PuffD

Peaceful Memorial Day

Cheers all,
I'm back from Poland in time for America's Memorial Day. If you're a recent follower who hasn't read my earlier work, I suggest "Memorial Day: Human and Heroic" as that is what put me on the map. I am working on Pantheon 2 and decide to skip ahead to content later in the book around the time of Memorial Day. I decided to upload it as a stand alone for the holiday but will incorporate it into the story when it's time. Until then, enjoy a brief look into Mandy and Val's lives outside of LL.
To all my brothers and sisters in arms, past and present, thank you for your service. To all the family member and loved ones of service members lost in the line of duty, thank you for your sacrifice.
I wish you all a peaceful Memorial Day,
PuffD

Pantheon Part 2!

Posted at 4/24/2016, 2:49:05 PMUpdated: 4/24/2016, 2:49:47 PM

Howdy all,

My research paper is complete and back with grades already. No major changes required for me to graduate, hooray! With that out of the way, I'm starting in on the next novel. By popular demand, I'm working on a second story in the Limitless Logistics series.

To answer some questions:

Where am I in the process? Building plot arcs and character background/personality, hopefully starting the first chapter today.

How long before a story appears? I like to keep a four chapter padding between me and posting, so about a month. I learned two lessons with the last story: 1) I write better when I know the ending ahead of time (see Kayla's Flight OV and new for what happens when I don't) 2) I can't keep up with posting a chapter a night. Sorry fellow pervs, it's beyond the reach of my sanity to do that again. Expect the next story to roll out at a much more sedate pace or, be posted with a much, much larger pad than four chapters

Who are you featuring in this one? I'm going to split it into three narrative views: Val, Mandy, and the yet unnamed Marine. It's too hard for me to wedge Val into everyone's lives with a logical reason to expose all that plot without splitting the narrative.

WILL THERE BE SEX?!?!?! Well, yes, of course. Why do you ask questions to which you already know the answer? ;)

Thanks for reading and look for the next story in a few weeks!
Cheers,
PuffD
